BAKKER: Ronald (Ron) Felix
Ron was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly in his Etobicoke home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He spent his early childhood in Kapuskasing with his big brother Jim (Gloria) of Madoc. It was in those years that Ron gained an appreciation for the outdoors. His father Jim instilled a love of fishing and woodworking. His mother Veronica modelled determination; this was extremely useful during his years as an Ontario civil servant and as an amateur novelist. He would jokingly say that he specialized in unpublished manuscripts. Ron was highly focused and attended University of Waterloo where he achieved a Masters in Political Science but, more importantly, he met the love of his life and future wife of 49 years, Sharon. They raised their two sons in their tidy Etobicoke bungalow and together enjoyed trips to the East Coast, sunny days at the cottage in Havelock , ski weekends and pizza nights. Ron would pass his joy of fishing and summers at the cottage on to his sons, David (Aisha), Jordan (Evelynne) and later to his grandchildren Mikah and Astrid. They would not share in his joy of chopping and stacking wood. He cared deeply for the lives and well-being of people and he applied this to his work as a Director in Community and Social Services and to his earlier work teaching adult learning. He is fondly remembered by his niece Tristen and great nephew Oskar, by the O’Leary family of Alliston; Brian, Ronnie, Ralph, David (Melanie), Glen, Marie (Ernie) and nieces and nephews Daryl, Nicole, Ryan, Geoff, Kerry, Shawn, Scott, Brittany, Keith, Francis, Gregory, Shannon, Lisa and Anna. He will be missed dearly by his Round Lake cottage friends and Etobicoke neighbours, for whom he played unofficial neighbourhood watch and coffee break moderator. We will miss his political debates and pizza nights, Paladin episodes with lunch and his green thumb in the garden. We will miss many many things. Ron was proud of his family and he loved you all. Respecting Ron’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. Memorial service to be held at a later date. Arrangements, McConnell Funeral Home, Madoc.
