GOULD: Marianne Elsie  (nee Crosby)
June 19, 1932 ~ October 3, 2017 in her 85th year.
Predeceased by her parents Fred & Annie (Ostler) Crosby, and brothers Gerry, Clifford & Fred. and her loving mother-in-law Louella Gould. Devoted wife of 67 years to Bill Gould.  Even though he loves to fish, apparently he was a hard man to catch.   Marianne often said, that she fell for Bill at first sight, and chased him up Barton Street, in Hamilton, until she caught him. They were married July 29, 1950 and have had the most truly wonderful loving marriage ever since. Bill & Marianne were blessed with a son, Joseph, and a daughter Rebecca (Steve Gane)   As a housewife, Marianne devoted her life to raising these beautiful children of God, and was delighted when her grandson, Nathan arrived to brighten her life even more.  She said it was a blessing to have them in her life and that her Heavenly Father provided them for her and Bill to love. Marianne & Bill were devoted to serving their Lord, Jesus in the Burlington Alliance Church where they participated in ministry to help bring others into salvation.  It was their mission in life, and right up until her death, Marianne wanted those who she met and loved to know that they too can know the Love of Jesus Christ, and not be left standing outside the gate looking in when it is their time to move on from this earth. Her other love was camping.  Over the years they have camped all over the place, and ultimately found a wooded lot on Kashwakamak Lake in the Harlowe area and there they built a cottage with the help of Bill’s uncle.  When Bill retired from Stelco in 1989 they moved to the cottage full-time and were quick to make many friends and neighbours with Ken & Joan Lindey.  One of their most cherished friends was with Jeannine Judkins who also lived at her cottage on Kash.  Jeannine invited them to Pineview Free Methodist Church 28 years ago and they have been part of the Pineview Family ever since.   In the end, Marianne struggled with a lung & heart issue that she came to realize her “old frame” was not able to keep going.  And she had great peace about this. Marianne said she was looking forward to seeing Jesus, and to see what colour His eyes are.  That she wanted to see if the streets of gold are solid, or thin enough that she could see through them.  That she could not wait to see the Gates of Heaven with the one huge Pearl.  The gems we prize here on earth, she stated, we will be sitting & walking upon.  So Marianne was admitted into the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital Saturday, September 30 with this resolve that she was in her final resting place on earth until her Heavenly Father called her home.  She didn’t have to wait long.  Marianne was taken October 3, 2017 at 12:20 in the morning.  Her only concern was not passing-on on her daughter’s birthday, so God waited only twenty minutes to answer her request.  It is Marianne’s selfless wish to not inconvenience anyone and has requested her memorial service be held on Saturday, October 14 at Pineview Free Methodist Church in Cloyne.  Visitation will commence at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m.  Marianne was very concerned that we do not send the family and friends home without providing them a proper lunch……….to the end thinking of others…

BOWRY: James Gordon
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of James Gordon “Jim” Bowry, on September 19th, 2017.  Born in Toronto in 1936 and raised in  Lindsay, life didn’t deal him a great hand. “We didn’t have a pot to piss in,” he would often say, yet his many cute stories of adventures and mischief spoke to a childhood that was rich in many other ways. A member of the so-called TNT Gang (the Tough Nuts of Town), we will always recount the gang’s top-secret code: The reincarnation of the uncified sufficiency [whatever that means] brings harm to the average cow (???).  He would go on to live in Toronto, where, one December day, a Bell Telephone repairman came to his home and noticed that he did not have a Christmas tree. The repairman soon returned with a small tree for him, from which he inferred that Bell might be a decent place to work. He retired from Bell 34 years later.  When attending his cousin’s wedding, he spotted the bride’s sister, Ann, and boldly proclaimed that he was going to marry her. In 1962, he fulfilled that promise in Fenelon Falls, her hometown. Together with their children and grandchildren, they recently celebrated their 55th anniversary in the Napanee hospital with balloons and take-out chicken wings. Planning has begun for a ceremony to award each of them (Dad in absentia) medals recognizing 55 years of patience, endurance, and love.  They would go on to build a truly wonderful life for themselves and their kids. In 1970, with another family, they purchased cottages on Eagle Lake, near Kingston, a place where their kids could splash in the water, catch minnows and roast marshmallows, and adults could tell tall fish tales, play cards, and share a lot of laughs. Eagle Lake was a place many Canadians and Americans became an extended family. The memories are cherished.  Nothing defines his life more than his home on Black River Road, where he moved his family from Toronto in 1976. Here he could look outside and see wild turkeys, birds, deer, and a friendly rabbit he named “Stew”. He cut wood for the stove, ate vegetables from his gardens, skied on his own trails, and caught fish off the rock. Oh, and he cut grass. Lots and lots of grass. There were important rituals, too, like his Wednesday “dump date” with Mom - a run to the dump followed by a cup of coffee together - and Friday fish and chip dinners and Sunday breakfasts with friends at the Gateway restaurant in Tweed. That he felt comfortable enough to ask his neighbours for help showed how much he trusted and appreciated them. Sitting on his deck with a cup of tea, looking over the river and watching his grandchildren run free around the property, he knew that, with the possible exception of his beloved Kawartha Kavaliers Drum Corps, nothing else on earth could make him happier. He is survived by his wife, Ann, and two children, Cal (Gloria) of Kingston, and Lisa of Victoria, B.C. Together with his four grandchildren, they were his greatest pride. We will miss his grumpy sarcasm and dry humour, but most especially his wisdom, which will always help guide us.  He often used a signature line when saying good-bye. “Have a care.” It was his own little way of conveying his love to the people around him. So, Dad, from all of those people you touched, let us say back to you, “Have a care.”  A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, October 1st starting at 12:30 P.M. at the Actinolite Community Hall, 20 Bridgewater Road, Actinolite, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, we would welcome donations to the Scott Mission of Toronto, or a local food bank in Jim's name.
