His place at the head of the Father’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas family gatherings and his annual Birthday dinners at the hunting camp will be empty, but our hearts will be full as memories are shared. No doubt Gordon is once again at Wilma’s side enjoying a nice piece of raisin pie.

VALE:  Robert K.
On Sunday, May 13, 2018, after cooking and enjoying a roast beef dinner with his partner Pauline, Bob collapsed and left this world suddenly. He had often remarked that he hoped he would not have to linger in a hospital or long-term care home at the end of his life, and his wish was granted. Bob was born to Norman and Peggy Vale in Montreal in 1936. He often told stories of his escapades during early years in Snowdon, and his capers later in downtown Montreal while studying at Sir George Williams College (now Concordia University) and working at the YMCA.  Bob began his working years in the accounting department at Shell Oil, but soon moved to the National Film Board, where he learned from many innovative film-makers. The die was cast for his career in film distribution. After a few years at NFB, New York, he moved on to sales at the Walter Reade film distribution division, the Desilu Corporation, and then Sterling Educational Films. Back in Canada he helped start up Marlin Motion Pictures, then established his own highly successful educational video distribution business, Magic Lantern Films.  Bob’s skills as chef and host extraordinaire will be missed by many family and friends who enjoyed get-togethers at the home he shared with Pauline Weber in the woods on the Black River north of Tweed. His daughter Donna (Vinnie Guagliano) and grandchildren, Hudson and Mia of Rolling Hills, California, will treasure memories of summer visits with Grandpa Vale at his country retreat. They were his pride and joy. His sister Joan Gugeler treasured visits with her “little brother” and Joan’s children Joy, Peter (Joanne), and Stephen (Tammy), with their children also enjoyed visiting Uncle Bob. Step-daughter Lynette Weber and step-grandson Isaac (Kati) Weber were looking forward to bringing great grand-baby, Jackson, to meet Grandpa Bob. Step-son Don (Christine) Weber and the extended Brubacher/Weber family enjoyed many summer, Thanksgiving, and Christmas gatherings around the dining table and fire pit at Black River Manor. Bob delighted in treating young visitors to rides in the trailer behind the John Deere tractor, exploring the property and surrounding trails. Despite his dependence on oxygen Bob determinedly found a way to continue mowing the lawn last summer, with his portable oxygen machine secured behind the tractor seat. He continued to enjoy watching birds at the feeder outside the window, and a wild turkey flock relied on the corn he dropped from the window each winter day. Bob was a mentor and an inspiration to many people along his life’s path, and memories of him will keep him in our lives. Cremation has taken place. Instead of a memorial service, Bob wanted family and friends to raise a glass in his memory when they get together. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Habitat for Humanity through McConnell Funeral Home, Tweed, or through any Habitat chapter.
